In our graduate machine learning course, we implemented random forests using Python to classify intron-exon decision boundaries for DNA sequences.
Again, in the UNM machine learning graduate course, we implemented Naive Bayes and Logistic Regression to classify news articles as one of twenty possible classifications. The NB and Log. Reg. implementation are based on Tom Mitchell's chapter on the two subjects.
While working full-time during the summer, I enrolled in Andrew Ng's deeplearning course on Coursera in which we learned building neural networks from scratch as well as using the sophistacted API of TensorFlow.
For over three years of my life I had the opportunity to travel the United States playing SMITE the video game professionally. I was unbelieveably fortunate to have years of hard work pay off in the way this hobby did; if it wasn't for winning a world championship with a prize pool of $150,000 and numerous other tournaments, I wouldn't have been able to pay my way through school. Although it's not directly related to the technical skills I'm showcasing here, it provided me with invaluable real-world skills such as leadership, dedication, and professionalism. I was lucky enough to represent numerous gaming companies such as SCUF gaming in front of tens of thousands of people. I met and forged relationships that I will have for the rest of my life. It was hard to balance while enrolled in my undergrad, but it was worth every extra hour staying up and social gathering missed.
